mean who could be opposed to this? the nra is opposed to this. the nra is wildly opposed to this. in tucson top, anniversary of the massacre there, the nra has come outraging against the tucson gun buyback program. they're trying to stop it. an nra board member is threatening that the nra will sue to stop tucson from destroying the guns that they handed over. the guns, regardless what their owners wanted, done with them, those guns must be sold to the highest bidder and put back into circulation. the nra says the state must not destroy the weapons that people handed over specifically so the weapons could be destroyed. instead, the nra says the state has to sell them, keep them in circulation, and thereby become a gun dealer itself. when your response to the political cliche of low-hanging fruit is something so cartoonishly insensitive, so cartoonishly villainous, you then bring upon us a second political cliche. you have jumped the shark. blocking voluntary efforts by people to get rid of their own guns because they want to voluntarily? that is an exercise in shark jumping. this is t

it up once last week. and the nra has already made it clear that it would fight tooth and nail for -- against such assault weapons ban, and not just on principle, the nra has a vested interest in defeating a ban. here is how the nra directly profits from the sale of assault weapons. one of the nation's top gun sellers is midway usa, and they have a round up program. when a customer bias gun from midway, they give the customer the option of rounding up to the nearest dollar. and the difference goes to the nra for their national endowment of protection of the second amendment. last year alone the nra made a million dollars this way. and of course naturally the nra opposes the band and their opposition carries a lot of weight with house republicans. here is nra president yesterday talking about whether he thinks the president will push for an assaults weapons ban. >> when a president takes all of the power of his office if he's willing to expand political capitol, you don't want to bet your house on the outcome, but i would say that they are not going to be able to get an assault weap

the national rifle association, a first for the obama administration. the nra says its membership increased by more than 100,000 since the sandy hook shooting. attorney general holder is meeting with dick's sporting goods and walmart. white house is calling in heavy hitters to change public opinion including bill clinton who denounced the use of assault weapons and the administration has the strongest ally in gabby giffords, herself a victim of gun violence but the president has work cut out for him. nearly half of all americans oppose a ban or semiautomatic weapons including those in the federal assault weapons ban that expired near lay decade ago. so let's spin on all of this. i guess what this is building towards at least politically is the white house and allies want to try to isolate the nra, even on the right and within the republican party and so you have a meeting today with walmart, dick's sporting goods. they want to take, you know, groups like that, businesses like that, interests like that and sort of pit everyone, this sort of wide array against the nra and dare house

would just like to say you are as obstinate as the nra and you cannot contribute? >> not at all, part of what we put in the letter to vice president biden who by the way did not blame the industry for violence i note in his remarks. as part of the letter to biden, we said that even if we are not part of the problem, we are willing to be part of the solution. we are interested in contributing to -- to reducing america's problem with violence. and some of the things that we suggest are games are powerful teaching tools and then the teaching potential of games has not been well explored at all. there are some people working in the video game field, some of our members who are working on games for conflict resolution, games for anti-bullying. there are people working on health games to help people who have to take -- who have mental problems to make sure they stay on their medication to gameify people staying, helping themselves to remain safe and to not be a danger. there are many, many things that the gaming industry wants to do to help with this problem. one issue though is that the go

am for the nra. i am a recruiter for the nra as well as the california rifle and pistol association. one of the things i can see as a parent and grandparent is, we need to look into educating our young children. through the nra and crpa, we have programs to teach children about gun safety, how to handle a weapon, how to use a weapon, when to use it, and when not to use it. i think that is one of the things we can strive to do throughout the nation. not just here. children need to know how to protect themselves. i have 15 grandchildren. they all know how to use a weapon. they range from six to 21. nine boys and six girls. every one of them can shoot. the school program, the bay area, concord area, the have rifle teams. competitive rival teams. i would like to see this happen -- rifle teams. i like to see this happen throughout california and throughout the nation.
